Spain prepares an economic offensive in Morocco to capture the 2030 World Cup markets
The Spanish government and ICEX are preparing a major forum in Rabat aimed at accelerating Spanish investment in Morocco. Scheduled for early December, it is expected to bring together dozens of major companies around markets linked in particular to the 2030 World Cup.
Madrid wants to organize an economic gathering in the Moroccan capital that is far more ambitious than the one initially planned. According to La Gaceta, which cites information attributed to ICEX sources, the forum is expected to take place during the first week of December.
The aim is to bring several dozen major Spanish companies together and put them directly in contact with Moroccan companies and local partners. Pedro Sánchez’s government thus wishes to encourage new establishments, business alliances and the participation of Spanish groups in future Moroccan markets.

The event will replace a smaller meeting entitled “2030 World Cup: opportunities for Spanish companies in Morocco 2026.” The program devoted to the World Cup must now be incorporated into the major Rabat forum.
The 2030 World Cup at the center of competing interests
The targeted sectors include telecommunications, connectivity networks, digital platforms and technologies applied to smart cities. Spanish companies will also be positioned in construction, expansion and modernization of stadiums and sports infrastructure.
The World Cup jointly organized by Morocco, Spain and Portugal will require major investments in transport, urban facilities, accommodation and digital infrastructure. Madrid does not want to leave these markets to its French, Chinese or Turkish competitors.
Spanish groups already hold strong positions in the kingdom. Acciona, Cox, TSK, Lantania, OCA Global and Cobra are involved in several major Moroccan water and energy projects. Some 17,000 Spanish companies also work with Morocco, and more than 350 have established a lasting presence there.

This economic offensive comes as political tensions linked to Sebta and the allocation of the World Cup’s major matches have reignited disagreements between the two countries. The possibility that this standoff could penalize Spanish companies in Morocco had even been raised this summer.
Madrid has nevertheless chosen to maintain its economic course. The December forum should enable Spanish companies to defend their positions and get ahead of the main Moroccan investments expected by 2030.
