Spain Prepared for Moroccan Transit Operation, Awaits Border Decision

While Morocco has canceled the 2020 edition of the Marhaba operation, Spain has announced its readiness to welcome Moroccan nationals in transit on its territory. The Iberian neighbor is committed to making this challenge a success "with all the security and health guarantees" provided that Morocco opens its borders.
According to the Spanish Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, his country is ready to support the Marhaba operation if Morocco decides to reopen its borders to the transit of its nationals.
For now, the epidemiological situation in the country is not yet stable. Like Tunisia, which has opened its borders, the kingdom has decided to keep its borders closed pending a return to normal of the situation.
For its part, Spain reiterated, on Thursday, through its Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, that if Morocco opens its borders and its nationals are allowed to enter, "this will be done with all the security and health guarantees for all nationals, Spaniards and those in transit through Spain".
According to the minister, all the preparations are underway to deal with all circumstances. "This will be done with all the security and health guarantees for all nationals. The coordination exists and plans are in place to face all circumstances," promised the government member. He also promises that the transit operation will not be similar to that of the last 30 years.
