Spain Plans $300 Million Purchase of Israeli Spike LR2 Missiles

The Spanish Ministry of Defense plans to acquire the Spike LR2 missile from the Israeli company Rafael Advanced Defence for 300 million euros. A congressional delegation visited Israel on January 13 to tour the company’s facilities.
Composed of deputies from the Socialist Party (PSOE), the Popular Party (PP) and Vox (far right), the delegation visited Israel on January 13 not only the facilities of the company Rafael, but also those of Elbit Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries. The assembly of the Spike missiles will be done by the company PAP Tecnos, a subsidiary of Rafael in Spain. Both Israeli missiles destined for the Spanish army and those for sale on the international market will be assembled on this site, reports El Salto Diario.
The visit of the parliamentary delegation to these Israeli companies will allow the Ministry of Defense to validate or not its 300 million euro contract with Rafael. In a group photo published on the Rafael website, we can see the congressional delegation posing with a smile next to an Apache helicopter and missiles.
But some analysts see this military partnership between Spain and Israel, which uses these weapons to kill Palestinians, in a bad light, denouncing a violation of human rights. During the visit to the Elbit Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries factories, the parliamentary group had the opportunity to verify the effectiveness of their drones, bought by the EU to monitor the Mediterranean and stop migrants and asylum seekers.
