Spain: the ordeal of a Moroccan tortured with whips for 600 kg of drugs
Four Moroccans and a Dutchman have been actively sought since July 2024 for the kidnapping and savage torture of a trafficker in Cadiz. Despite the seriousness of the facts, the slowness of the procedure allowed the suspects to flee to Tangier before their formal identification.
In November 2023, A. B., a 41-year-old Moroccan trafficker, was kidnapped in Sanlúcar de Barrameda by a criminal organization. His captors suspected him of having stolen 600 kg of hashish that were on his boat. The reality is quite different: the drugs had been discreetly seized by the Spanish police on the orders of a judge, without anyone noticing.

For two days, in a country house near Algeciras, the victim underwent a real ordeal:
• Physical torture: More than 50 lashes with an electrical cable, a broken nose, split lips and head trauma.
• Asphyxiation: His face was covered with plastic bags until he was on the verge of fainting.
• Death threats: A gun was pointed at his temple while his tormentors shouted to execute him.
Finally abandoned, bleeding, on the side of a road, A. B. will bear scars for life all over his body.
The investigation, led by the Sanlúcar de Barrameda court, was marked by a fatal slowness. It took eight months for the police to ask the victim to officially identify his attackers. According to El Mundo, by the time the identification was confirmed, the five suspects had already vanished:
• Youssef D.: Expelled from Spain to Morocco in March 2024, even before being formally linked to the crime.
• Mohamed Rachid B., Bachid R. and Ilias E.: Left Spain via the ferries connecting Tarifa to Tangier.
• Taoufik A. (Dutch): Untraceable, he disappeared from all his known addresses.
The irony of fate: The victim, A. B., is not a simple citizen. A few months after his kidnapping, he was arrested in April 2024 during a crackdown on the largest "drug transporter" gang in the province of Cadiz, involved in the trafficking of more than 5 tons of hashish and cocaine.

Today, the investigation for torture is at a standstill. While the victim is still waiting for his tormentors to answer for their actions, the latter are living peaceful days on the other side of the strait, out of reach of the Spanish jurisdiction.
