Spain Offers to Mediate Morocco-Algeria Diplomatic Crisis at Mediterranean Summit

José Manuel Albares, Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced that Spain will propose its mediation in the diplomatic crisis between Morocco and Algeria.
In an interview with the daily Diario de Sevilla, the head of Spanish diplomacy indicated that at the next summit of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), scheduled for November 28 and 29 in Barcelona, for which the presence of Morocco is announced, his country intends to play a role for a return to dialogue between the two countries, beneficial to the stability of the Mediterranean.
Algeria and Morocco "are two important partners for Spain and also for the European Union," Albares said. "On November 28 and 29, the Union for the Mediterranean meeting will take place in Barcelona, where we will discuss this crisis. We have always worked for appeasement in the interest of the Mediterranean region," the minister confided, considering "dialogue essential".
And to add, that "we have a strategic partnership with Morocco. It is a country with which we share huge interests in various fields. Moreover, Morocco is a country that plays an important role in the stability of the Mediterranean," stressing the priority aspect of getting out of this crisis.
Referring to the recent speech of the King on August 20, the minister stressed that the sovereign has shown "clear signs of appeasement of relations between Morocco and Spain". Signs that Madrid has begun to perceive since the summer through "several positive Moroccan initiatives".
