Spain: a Moroccan dies after a hunger strike

The Spanish Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz, announced on Monday that an investigation has been opened to shed light on the death of the young Moroccan asylum seeker who had started a hunger strike in San Fernando de Henares (Madrid) to protest the lack of an appointment.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Sectoral Conference on Immigration held at the headquarters of her department, Elma Saiz said that an investigation was opened within the ministry as soon as she received the information about the young man’s death. "The protocols have been followed and for now, with total caution, we must wait for the results of the autopsy," the minister told Europa Press.
She added: "Of course, all efforts have been made to support his brother, also a migrant, who was in Barcelona. We transferred him to Madrid and offered him psychological support and made available to him everything he needs, as well as to his friends." Of Moroccan origin, the victim was staying in a public shelter in San Fernando de Henares (Madrid). According to the Ombudsman’s office, he did not suffer from any illness.
