Spain’s Military Sales to Morocco Raise National Security Concerns

Spain sold 385.7 million euros worth of ammunition and military vehicles to Morocco between 1992 and 2020. A "massive" sale denounced by a senator from the Compromis party who accuses the Spanish government of having contributed to making Morocco a threat to the integrity of Spain.
In detail, Spain sold Morocco military vehicles for 164 million euros, ammunition for 98.7 million euros, bombs, rockets, missiles and torpedoes for 33.6 million euros, aircraft and drones for 10.6 million euros, and various equipment for 6.6 million euros (weapons, electronic and protective equipment).
In 2008, Spain reached a record of land vehicle sales to Morocco with 113.9 million euros. Sales stabilized from 2014 with 9.7 million euros, before rising to 30.2 million in 2016 including 22.2 million for ammunition, 23.4 million in 2019 including 13.2 for ammunition and 12.5 million in 2020 including 10.2 million for ammunition.
These figures were revealed after Senator Carles Mulet of Compromis sent a question to the government to get explanations on these "massive" arms sales to Morocco since 1991 when the kingdom signed a ceasefire agreement with the Polisario Front.
"If Morocco continues to massacre the Sahrawi people, it is thanks to the sale of Spanish weapons," denounced the Compromis senator, accusing the various Spanish governments of having contributed to making Morocco a threat to the integrity of the State.
