Spain’s Lamine Yamal, 16, Expected in National Squad Amid Morocco’s Interest

Morocco has spared no effort to attract Lamine Yamal, 16, and Brahim Díaz, 24, into its nets. These two young footballers, who also hold Moroccan nationality, seem to be waiting for a possible call from Luis de la Fuente, the Spanish coach.
In the tense context of the Spanish federation, marked by the Rubiales affair, Lamine Yamal, on his side, could be the nice surprise of the Spanish squad that is to be unveiled this Friday, September 1st, writes AS. His recent contacts with the national team suggest this. Brahim Díaz, despite a regular presence in the youth teams and a very good year at Milan, has still not been called up to the Spanish senior team.
Walid Regragui has announced the names of the players facing Liberia and Burkina Faso. As for the young Hispano-Moroccan prodigy of Barça, Yamal, Regragui, he has described him as a "future great world player", while stressing that the choice to play for Spain or Morocco was up to him.
During the press conference, Regragui recalled that the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has been following Yamal since he was ten years old. He acknowledged having met the young player and tried to convince him of the Moroccan project. However, even if Yamal opts for Spain, he will remain "Moroccan" in Regragui’s eyes.
