Spain Faces Backlash Over Deportation of Moroccan Minors from Ceuta

José Luis Martinez-Almeida, mayor of Madrid and spokesperson for the Spanish Popular Party (PP), reacted to the expulsion of minors from Ceuta. In his sights, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez.
The elected official calls on Pedro Sánchez to respect the laws relating to the return to Morocco of the minors of Ceuta, reports the agency EFE. "What I would say to the government is that you cannot go from one extreme to the other, if you respect the law, you will ensure success in the decisions you make," he said. Regarding the position of the PP, José Luis Martinez-Almeida indicated that his party will comply with the law, and that this is what the government must also do.
According to the elected official, Pedro Sánchez says "one thing and its opposite" on immigration. He recalls that ten days after he became President of the Government, he authorized the landing in Valencia of a ship with more than 600 immigrants and that three years later he expels minors to Morocco.
The leader of Podemos, Ione Belarra, also joined this debate. In a letter addressed to the Interior, the Ministry of Social Rights and the 2030 Agenda considers that the return of minors to Morocco is a "very serious" issue. This could involve "a violation of the rights of foreign girls and boys in Spain," added the eco-socialist.
