Spain to Extradite Moroccan Suspect in Fake Residency Permit Scheme

The Audiencia Nacional will authorize on Monday the extradition of a Moroccan wanted by the judicial authorities of Nador for document forgery and membership in a criminal organization.
The accused was arrested in March in Toledo. He is accused of having sold fake Spanish residence permits to Moroccans who used them to illegally enter Spain. The accused was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by the Attorney General’s Office of the Nador court for the alleged crimes of illegal immigration, membership in a criminal organization, and forgery of administrative documents, reports EFE.
A search carried out in 2016 at the home of an accomplice of the accused, to whom he would have handed over the fake documents, led to the seizure of 254 Moroccan passports, 9 Spanish passports, passports of other nationalities, 8 Spanish residence permits, driver’s licenses, foreign health insurance cards and 520 photographs of men and women.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Audiencia Nacional will approve on Monday his surrender to the Moroccan authorities, considering that the offenses he is accused of are not time-barred and that the extradition request is not motivated by political considerations. The accused faces a sentence of up to 11 years in prison.
