Spain Extends Work Permits for Young Foreign Agricultural Workers by Two Years

Spain has decided to extend the stay of young foreign workers in the agricultural fields by an additional two years. The announcement, made this week by the Spanish Secretary of State for Immigration, Hana Jalloul, does not impose any geographical or professional restrictions.
By allowing thousands of seasonal workers to regularize their administrative situation in Spain, through very simplified formalities, the Madrid government is making a big point on a humanitarian level by coming to the aid of a long-marginalized social category, writes the newspaper El Pais.
The action particularly concerns young seasonal workers aged between 18 and 21, continues the Spanish media, specifying that it is a logical continuation of the royal decree of April 7 last. The latter had allowed the State to cope with the labor shortage in the strawberry fields, by integrating the unemployed and undocumented immigrant minors.
In addition to a clean criminal record, the candidates must have worked for 2 consecutive months in the agricultural sector, from the date of promulgation of the royal decree, and 1 month if the contract has been terminated due to force majeure. A derogation is possible if the file does not meet the eligibility criteria.
