Spain Expels Moroccan National for Role in Catalan Separatist Protests

A young man of Moroccan origin was expelled from Spain last Friday for participating in the massive demonstrations of Catalan separatists denouncing the conviction of separatist leaders.
The 22-year-old Moroccan national, who had been detained since October 18 in a Foreigners’ Center in Barcelona, was transferred to the Catalan capital, after the High Court of Madrid confirmed the first instance judgment.
According to the local police, nearly 750,000 Catalan separatists had taken to the streets of Barcelona to demand the release of the ten political leaders as well as hundreds of people detained during previous marches.
Two leaders and eight former dismissed ministers were sentenced to heavy prison terms, ranging from 9 to 13 years, following the declaration of independence, described as rebellion by the Spanish justice system.
