Spain Expels Moroccan Imam Accused of Salafism from Extremadura Mosque

The Spanish police arrested on Tuesday the imam of the mosque in Talayuela (Extremadura), Yahya Benaouda, accused of Salafism. He will be expelled to Morocco in the next few hours.
Yahya Benaouda has been residing in Cáceres for more than 20 years, a province of 7,338 inhabitants, nearly half of whom are Muslim. He is the imam of the mosque in Talayuela, the largest in the autonomous community of Extremadura, according to the latest demographic study by the Observatorio Andalusí.
Accused of Salafism, the imam will be expelled to Morocco in the next few hours. Several Salafist imams, considered radicals, are increasingly the subject of expulsions from several European countries, which recall that religious freedom is a right guaranteed by constitutions and laws and condemn the dissemination of ideas compromising the integration of the Muslim community into society.
