Spain Expands Moroccan Seasonal Worker Program for Huelva’s Fruit Harvest

Spain has agreed with Morocco to recruit 5,000 additional seasonal workers for the next 2022/2023 agricultural campaign in Huelva.
For this agricultural campaign in Huelva, 15,350 seasonal workers will be hired for the harvest of red fruits such as strawberries, the sub-delegation of the government said in a press release, following a meeting held in Tangier between the ministries concerned of the two countries and the agricultural associations of Huelva.
The two parties have concluded an "important" agreement which will not only "maintain a fluid collaboration and strengthen relations, but also guarantee a future for these women who participate in the program and put an end to illegal immigration," notes the Director General of Migration, Santiago Yerga.
The sub-delegate of the government of Huelva, Manuela Parralo, for her part specified that priority will be given to locals. Reviewing the last campaign, she reported on the reforms expected this year regarding the issuance of visas, work and residence permits, aimed at improving the travel and entry conditions in Spain of seasonal workers to ensure orderly, regular and safe migration.
