Spain Dismisses Claims of Moroccan Spying on PM Sánchez with Pegasus Software

The director of the presidency’s cabinet, Óscar López, described as "hoax, slander and conspiracy theory" the information that Morocco would be behind the espionage of Pedro Sánchez’s mobile phone using the Israeli software Pegasus.
In response to the question from EH Bildu deputy Jon Iñarritu, who accused Morocco, without naming it, of having spied on Pedro Sanchez using Pegasus, López assured that "this type of hoaxes and slanders do not affect national security or the general interest". "Obviously, we know which State is behind this infection or at least there are clear indications," the deputy said.
The chief of staff of Pedro Sanchez recalled that the Executive seized justice as soon as it was informed of this case of espionage with the Israeli software Pegasus, relays Europa Press. The government has shown "transparency" in this case, but the Audiencia Nacional ultimately dismissed the case due to the "total" lack of judicial cooperation with Israel, he explained.
The Popular Party (PP) deputy Rafael Hernando also described the hacking of Sánchez’s phone as "very serious", denouncing the government’s "ostrich policy". "Under the pretext of national security, the civil and political rights of citizens have been violated," Jordi Gaseni Blanch of the ERC also criticized, asking to know the measures taken to prevent any cases of espionage.
The government of Pedro Sánchez "has put an end to the dirty war" against the Catalan independence movement, López reacted. "This government is not waging a dirty war against its political rivals, as others have done," he insisted, indirectly addressing the PP.
