Spain Developing Long-Range Rocket System to Counter Moroccan HIMARS Threat

Spain is working to have a Silam (High Mobility Rocket Launcher System) launcher in order to face possible attacks from Morocco, which has just acquired the American HIMARS, capable of reaching Spanish cities like Seville and Granada. But the system will not be fully operational for five years.
In a response to a parliamentary question from Vox to which Infodefensa had access, the Spanish Ministry of Defense indicated that "the current forecast is to reach full operation of the system in 2028". The department led by Margarita Robles has made it one of its priorities since the withdrawal of the Teruel rocket launchers in 2011. According to an official document on the Force 35 project, each brigade will have "a battery of long-range multiple rocket launchers of about 120 to 130 km and high mobility".
The army emphasizes the key role that rocket launchers will play in future scenarios, as they have a great capacity to counter all kinds of attacks. The Ministry of Defense has planned a line of 22 million euros in its budget this year for the acquisition of a rocket launcher system as part of the special modernization programs of the Spanish army that should cost 290 million euros over the period 2023-2028.
