Spain Detains Moroccan Muslim Leader Facing Deportation Over Security Concerns

The police arrested on Tuesday Mohamed Saïd Badaoui, head of the Islamic community of Reus (Tarragona), accused of being a threat to national security. The Moroccan activist, threatened with expulsion, was placed in custody at the La Verneda police station in Barcelona.
Mohamed Saïd Badaoui, 40, is threatened with expulsion from Spanish territory. President of the Association for the Defense of the Rights of the Muslim Community of Reus (Tarragona), the so-called "Salafist of Reus" claims that his expulsion is "political" and has been decided because of his fight against institutional racism. Last August, parties like Comunes, ERC, Junts and the CUP sent a letter to Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska to demand the suspension of his expulsion, which they consider "unjustified".
The parties believe that the accusations against the Moroccan are based solely on "a set of subjective assessments". The activist posted on his social networks a video of a meeting with Republican deputy Gabriel Rufián and the Minister of Feminism of the Generalitat, Tània Verge, who expressed their support in his fight.
