Spain Detains Moroccan Jihadist Extradited from Austria After Years in Syria

The Spanish National Court has ordered the detention of a Moroccan, a jihadist terrorist, arrested in Austria in early August as he was returning to Europe after years of jihad in Syria. He has been extradited to Spain where he resided until 2014.
The 37-year-old Moroccan resided in Madrid where he underwent his radicalization process before joining the Al Nusra group of Al-Qaeda in 2014 to wage jihad in the Idlib region in northwestern Syria. Some of his relatives still live in the Spanish capital. According to the Spanish security forces, the accused is a "foreign terrorist fighter".
Arrested on August 2 by the Austrian authorities on the basis of a European arrest warrant issued by the Spanish judicial authorities, he was extradited to Spain seven days later and last Thursday, he was made available to the competent judge who ordered his provisional detention until his trial, El Confidencial reports.
Another jihadist terrorist was also arrested in Mataró (Barcelona) on the same day as the Moroccan, the Interior Ministry said.
