Spain Deploys 22,000 Agents for Operation Marhaba to Ensure Safe Summer Travel

Spain has deployed more than 22,000 agents, including nearly 16,000 from the security forces and corps, to ensure the safety of people and property as part of Operation Marhaba, which started on Wednesday, June 15.
In a press release, the Spanish Ministry of the Interior specified that the plan designed for Operation Marhaba 2022 aims to guarantee the fluidity and security of traffic, as well as the protection of public health, with particular attention to health checks related to Covid-19.
The fleet plan for the Operation will be implemented by seven shipping companies with 33 ships dedicated to transporting people and vehicles. Two rest areas and seven information points have been planned. Similarly, the border information system has been activated, with 1,768 cameras and 2,428 panels deployed along the entire route of the Transit Operation.
The special plan has also provided for high traffic days, such as July 8, 9 and 10, coinciding with the dates of Eid al-Adha, July 29, 30 and 31 and August 1, 2, 3 and 4, and August 27, 28 and 29 for the return phase. Spain and Morocco have worked closely over the past two months to prepare this Operation, which is taking place after two years of cancellation due to the health crisis and diplomatic crisis.
In 2019, more than 3.3 million Moroccans from Europe and 760,000 vehicles used the Spanish ports, especially those of Algeciras and Tarifa, to travel to Morocco during the summer season.
