Spain Denies Citizenship to Long-Term Moroccan Resident Over ’Insufficient Integration’

A Moroccan was denied Spanish nationality on appeal after spending 13 years with his family in Ceuta. His file was rejected due to his "insufficient integration".
The appeal filed by this Moroccan regarding his naturalization was rejected by the Litigation Chamber of the Supreme Court, reports El Faro de Ceuta.
According to the same source, the integration examination not only takes into account language proficiency, but rather the mastery of the "fundamental aspects of the cultural, constitutional and political reality of Spain".
The applicant, thanks to his many years spent in Spain, is able to express himself in Spanish. His insufficient integration is justified by his lack of mastery of certain essential questions about Spain.
The other factor that invalidates the Moroccan’s application is related to the health aspect. The applicant suffers from a 53% disability rate (due to an endocrine metabolic system disease due to diabetes).
