Spain’s Ceuta and Melilla Plan Strategy to Counter Moroccan Border Pressure

A high-level meeting is scheduled for this Monday to develop a strategy to counter the decisions recently taken by Morocco.
According to the Spanish news agency EFE, this meeting, which will be attended by Juan Jesús Vivas, President of Ceuta and Eduardo de Castro, President of Melilla, will allow "to prepare a series of measures so that the two autonomous cities do not have to depend on Morocco".
According to the government spokesman, Alberto Gaitán, a "series of measures will be taken during this meeting to respond forcefully to the pressure that the city is suffering from the other side of the border to prevent the city from being suffocated". According to the spokesman, these proposals will not go against anyone, but will be in favor of Ceuta and Melilla, their interests and those of their citizens.
Some of these measures can be implemented without the approval of the central government.
During this meeting, issues related to the closure of borders decided by Morocco, the cessation of subsidies in favor of the two cities not extended by the government, as well as issues related to unaccompanied foreign minors in the two enclaves, will be addressed.
