Spain Braces for 1 Million Moroccan Travelers in Annual Summer Migration

The National Police checkpoints have been reinforced at the ports of Algeciras and Tarifa. Indeed, as part of the Paso del Estrecho Operation (OPE), these ports are expecting the arrival of one million travelers from Morocco before September 15.
According to the confidences of Lucrecio Fernández, Government Delegate in Andalusia, the security force facilities in these two ports have been reinforced. Likewise, on site, the services of Civil Protection and Health, the Red Cross, a Moroccan delegation and the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, are working to meet the needs of the passengers. In short, it is "a heavy and well-adapted machine", as the representative of the Government in Andalusia can be proud of.
According to him, "until the end of the 2019 OPE, we must expect more than one million travelers". He bases his forecasts on record figures. Indeed, as of Monday, August 19, 2019, 589,262 people in 133,228 vehicles have returned to Europe through Spain, of which more than 70% on the lines serving Algeciras from Ceuta and Tanger-Med, and Tarifa from Tanger-Ville.
All this explains the strengthening of the security system at the level of these two ports. If these arrival figures are already higher than those reached last year at the same date (8.2% more passengers and 9.8% more vehicles), it should be noted that between August 30 and September 2, a progressive increase in maritime traffic is expected, observes El Diario de Sevilla.
