Spain Boosts Security for 2.3 Million Moroccan Travelers in Annual ’Operation Marhaba’

In the run-up to the start of Operation Marhaba on June 13, the Directorate General of Civil Protection and Emergencies of the Spanish Ministry of the Interior, in collaboration with the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA), organized on June 11 and 12 a training for the staff involved in the process for greater efficiency.
Intervening during the opening ceremony of this training program, Blanca Flores recalled that "2,346,671 Moroccans living abroad transited through the ports of Algeciras and Tarifa last year", stressing that these figures show "the importance of Operation Marhaba for the province of Cadiz and arouse concern among the staff in charge of its organization".
To guarantee the safety of passengers and the fluidity of traffic during this massive movement to Morocco, "inter-institutional cooperation is essential". "Collaboration and coordination of the devices contribute to making the wait and transit more peaceful and will allow us to be ready to react to any unexpected event," said the sub-delegate of the government in Cadiz and member of the Board of Directors of the APBA.
"I hope that with the participation and efforts of everyone, this year will be like the previous one, a success in terms of organization and results. [...] There are no two identical Marhaba Operations, which requires updating knowledge, experiences and facing each edition together," added Blanca Flores. This year, significant flows are expected between June 14 and 16, the celebration of Eid al-Adha scheduled for June 17 in Morocco.
Other peak periods should occur on the last weekend of July and the first of August and at the end of August, said Blanca Flores, who did not fail to express her gratitude "to the institutions, operators and professionals who support this important system. The good preparation of the organizations and the people involved benefits everyone, and the absence of incidents in the course of the Transit Operation is our goal".
