Spain Boosts Defense Spending by 25.8% to Modernize Military, Align with NATO Goals

Spain plans a budget of 12.8 billion euros for the Ministry of Defense and the modernization of its army in 2023, an increase of 25.8% compared to this year’s budget.
The Spanish government has decided to increase its military budget for the implementation of armament programs, including the acquisition of S-80 submarines, Eurofighter fighters, A400M transport aircraft, maritime action ships (BAM), F-110 frigates, 8x8 wheeled combat vehicles, etc.
NATO members made a commitment in 2014 to bring their defense budgets to 2% of GDP. This explains this increase in Spain’s military budget aimed at acquiring new military equipment and modernizing the existing ones, reports El Confidencial Digital.
This budget increase will result in an increased workload for the administrative and economic services of the air force. To cope with this, the Directorate of Economic Affairs has decided to hire companies to "provide additional support for improving the management of the various activities" of these sections.
The companies will provide assistance in accounting, budget and treasury management, procurement, data entry into the Economic Management and Administration Computer System (SIDAE) and database processing. A one-year framework agreement will be signed with these companies from January 1, 2023. It can be extended for three years.
