Spain Bans AML Ship from Ports Due to Toxic Emissions

Due to toxic gas emissions, the ship "Morocco Sun", owned by the company AML, will no longer be able to cross the Strait of Gibraltar or dock at Spanish ports. The decision has just been made by the Spanish port authorities.
On October 16, the ship was described as a "danger to the environment" and prohibited from docking at the Port of Algeciras, following checks carried out by its harbor master’s office on the standards of toxic gases emitted.
A blow for the President of BMCE Bank, Othmane Benjelloun, who was forced to move the ferry to the Port of Perama, in order to have the old engines replaced, in order to meet the requirements of the Spanish authorities.
Othmane Benjelloun’s maritime experience could cause him substantial losses, reported Aljarida24, especially since the ship will only be operational from February 2020.
Main shareholder of the Moroccan-Greek company, African moroccan lines, the Moroccan billionaire, Othmane Benjelloun, holds 51% of the share capital.
