Spain Backs Morocco’s Maritime Border Claims, Citing UN Convention

The head of Spanish diplomacy, Arancha Gonzàlez Laya, stated that Morocco has the right to delimit its maritime space.
In her speech, during a joint press conference organized with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita, the Spanish Minister, Arancha González Laya, acknowledged that Morocco has the right to delimit its maritime space in compliance with the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and international law.
According to the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, the EU and Cooperation, Morocco has exercised its right by initiating a legal process to delimit its maritime space.
According to the head of Spanish diplomacy, Morocco has reiterated its commitment not to impose any fait accompli or unilateral measures. She also promised that the two countries will work in this direction.
