Spain attempts a dirty trick on Morocco
While Morocco and Spain are set to co-host the 2030 World Cup, Madrid is no longer hesitant to point out the "weaknesses" of its neighbor. Using the incidents from the 2025 AFCON, Spain is trying to oust the Kingdom from the race for the final.
The race to host the final of the 2030 World Cup is intensifying between the co-hosting countries. During a gala event for the sports press in Madrid, the president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Rafael Louzán, stated with certainty that Spain would host the tournament’s final match. Although FIFA has not yet officially announced the distribution of the venues, the Spanish leader is counting on his country’s organizational experience for this centenary edition.
This statement is accompanied by an explicit questioning of Morocco’s security capacity. Rafael Louzán notably referred to the incidents that occurred during the 2025 AFCON final on January 18th. This match between Morocco and Senegal had been marked by tensions on the field and attempts by supporters to invade the pitch, facts that are currently the subject of an investigation by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
While acknowledging Morocco’s transformation efforts and the quality of its new stadiums, the RFEF president uses these recent disturbances to strengthen Spain’s position. For its part, Morocco is pursuing its massive development plan to maximize its share of matches during the competition. It should be recalled that the tournament will begin with three symbolic matches in South America (Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay) before focusing on the trio of Morocco-Spain-Portugal.
