Spain Arrests Algerian Suspect in Jihadist Recruitment Network Spanning North Africa

The Civil Guard arrested on Saturday in Majorca an Algerian man, head of a criminal organization based in Europe, who recruited fighters in Morocco for jihadist groups in Libya.
The suspect was arrested thanks to close cooperation between the Civil Guard, Interpol and the Algerian authorities. According to the information reported by Cadena Ser, he would have taken advantage of the structure of the criminal organization to transfer fighters from Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia to areas controlled by jihadist groups in Libya and would also have financed these groups with money from his criminal activity.

The Algerian man had several identity documents of various nationalities in his possession at the time of his arrest. After his arrest, he was detained. An investigation has been opened to determine the reasons for his presence in Spain and possibly to apprehend other members of his network.
