Spain’s Arms Exports to Morocco and Algeria Drop in 2021, Report Shows

Spain exported 3.2 billion euros worth of arms to Morocco, Algeria, the United Arab Emirates in 2021, down 9.1% from 2020. This is revealed in the report of the Secretary of State for Trade on the export of defense and dual-use material for the year 2021.
Spain exported to Morocco 14.9 million euros worth of spare parts for Spanish-made transport aircraft, and 91 transport vehicles worth 11.7 million euros in 2021, according to the report. Spanish exports to Algeria, on the other hand, reached 7.2 million euros in spare parts for transport aircraft, mine protection sets for military vehicles and 12.7 mm remote control weapon systems.
Spain also exported defense equipment, including equipment and technologies, to neighboring countries such as France (654.3 million), Germany (432.6 million) and the Netherlands (407.6 million) as part of military cooperation programs, but also to the United Arab Emirates (73.7 million), Qatar (2.4 million) and Kuwait (2.3 million in grenade launchers).
Furthermore, Spanish companies sold 1.9 billion euros worth of arms to Saudi Arabia, involved in the war in Yemen. These were mainly spare parts for Spanish-made aircraft, equipment, technologies, mortar shells and 155 mm artillery shells.
