Spain Approves Extradition of Barcelona Terror Attack Accomplice to Morocco

The Spanish Ministry of the Interior has validated the extradition of Driss Oukabir, sentenced to 36 years in prison for the terrorist attacks of August 17, 2017 in Catalonia, so that he can serve the rest of his sentence in a Moroccan prison.
Driss Oukabir is the one who rented the van with which Younès Abouyaaqoub rammed into people walking on Las Ramblas (Barcelona), killing 16 and injuring 140. Sentenced in May 2021 to 36 years in prison for this terrorist act, he will be able to serve the rest of his sentence in a Moroccan prison, judicial sources told EFE, specifying that the Spanish Ministry of the Interior has authorized his extradition.
After these attacks, Younes Abouyaaqoub fled, before running over several people with a car in Cambrils (Tarragona) with four other terrorists, killing one and injuring about half a dozen. Continuing on foot, they were wearing vests with explosives, trying to die as suicide bombers. Four of them were shot dead by a Mosso d’Esquadra. Hiding in a vineyard in Subirats (Barcelona), Abouyaaqoub was finally located and killed after four days on the run.
The national police warn that Catalonia remains a "very sensitive" hotbed of jihadist radicalization.
