Spain Aims to Host 2035 Women’s World Cup with Portugal and Morocco

After positioning itself with Portugal and Morocco for the 2030 Men’s World Cup, Spain is already looking further ahead. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has confirmed this Friday its intention to bid for the organization of the 2035 Women’s World Cup, once again associating with its Portuguese and Moroccan neighbors. It is its president, Rafael Louzán, who has formalized this ambition.
The announcement was made in Madrid, during a university event dedicated to women’s sport. Speaking about the federation’s orientations, Rafael Louzán was clear: "At the moment, we also want to lead the possibility that Spain will host the Women’s World Cup in 2035." This approach is part of a stated desire to establish more equality within the organization.
Hosting such a competition is seen as an essential lever to boost Spanish women’s football, whose national team holds the title of world champion. "What better way to make women’s sport more visible than with the contribution of the most important global sporting event that exists, a Football World Cup. This is what we are working on," said the leader.
Buoyed by the experience of the candidacy for 2030, the RFEF is once again betting on the Ibero-Moroccan trio. Portugal and Morocco are considered "great allies to strengthen the candidacy," in the words of Louzán. This collaboration is seen as an asset to carry this new project.
The process seems to be accelerating, the president of the RFEF having mentioned that the deadline for filing the applications was approaching. Spain intends to lead this initiative, described as "a second opportunity that is given by equality," with the hope of hosting, after the men’s tournament, what Rafael Louzán already calls "the World Cup of equality".
