Spain Accuses Morocco of Crossing ’Good Neighbor’ Line Amid Migrant Crisis

The diplomatic crisis between Morocco and Spain caused by the hospitalization of Brahim Ghali, the Polisario chief, in Logroño under the assumed name of Mohamed Ben Battouche, an Algerian national, is worsening. The first vice-president of the Spanish government, Carmen Calvo, accuses Rabat of having exceeded "the limit of good neighborliness".
Clearly, tensions between Morocco and Spain are far from subsiding. In an interview with the Andalusian regional television Canal Sur, Carmen Calvo attacks Rabat. She claims that the kingdom has exceeded "the limit of good neighborliness" for having allowed an "assault on the Spanish borders in the autonomous city of Ceuta". Between 8,000 and 9,000 illegal migrants had entered the enclave at the beginning of last week.
"We want to respect Morocco, but what happened can no longer happen, she hammered. It is an aggression that we cannot allow". Returning to the reception of the Polisario leader under a false identity, at Algeria’s request, on April 18, she affirmed that Spain is "a sovereign country". "We are a sovereign country of our policies and we make decisions based on our policy," said Carmen Calvo.
