Son and Mother Sentenced in Moroccan Parricide Case: 20 and 15 Years

The criminal chamber of the Court of Appeal of Tangier sentenced a young man and his mother to 20 years and 15 years in prison respectively for parricide.
The crime was committed in 2020 in Beni Arouss, located 71 km northeast of Larache. The court only needed one testimony. That of the deceased’s brother. It was he who alerted the elements of the Royal Gendarmerie of Beni Arouss, of the crime that had been committed, reports Aujourd’hui Le Maroc.
According to the deposition made by the latter, the two accused brutally mistreated his brother. Taken to the Saniat Rmel hospital in Tetouan, the doctors then referred him to the Avicenne hospital, due to the seriousness of his case. But the doctors could not save his life.
Even if the two accused have always claimed their innocence, the public prosecutor’s office has requested that they be punished to the extent of the crime committed. He demanded the death penalty against the mother and her son. The lawyer for the two defendants, on the other hand, asked the court to grant them extenuating circumstances. But they were found guilty of parricide and complicity, and sentenced to 20 years in prison for the son, and 15 years in prison for the mother.
