Sofia Essaïdi: From ’Star Academy’ to Leading Role in TF1’s ’La Promesse’

17 years ago, Franco-Moroccan Sofia Essaïdi participated in the 3rd edition of "Star Ac", but she faced some criticism on how she managed her career after this music competition that made her known. Today, she plays a key role in "La Promesse", the police series currently airing on TF1.
In an interview with SudInfo, the multi-talented artist went into more detail about her career, her choices, and especially how her stay at the Château shaped her character. Sofia Essaïdi now wants to put her personal story at the service of the roles she is offered. "I am someone demanding. Shooting less, it’s shooting better," she confides, as if to respond to those who question her repeated absences from the stage.
The actress’s performance in "La Promesse" is unanimous, to her delight, as she is pleased to know that people now understand the trajectory she is trying to give to her career and which seemed misunderstood. "I simply needed to be offered quality projects that touch me. I am quite demanding. I need the roles to echo my story. My goal is not to be known, but fulfilled and in harmony with myself," she said.
In "La Promesse", Sofia Essaïdi plays the role of Sarah Castaing, a police officer in the juvenile brigade. A role apparently made for the singer, whose acting career is consolidating quite well. According to her, some of the character’s wounds are intimately linked to her. "When we reopen certain wounds, it’s never simple, it really hurts. We revive heavy emotions, but we heal by doing it. Today, I am at peace and happy, even if I still have a lot of things to discover about myself," reports SudInfo.
The Moroccan actress shares the bill of the series with Olivier Marchal, a French actor, used to playing cop roles. The actress is happy with this encounter, which, she says, has brought her a lot. "Olivier is an extraordinary person. He has a gentleness, an elegance and a humanity that have touched me a lot. We even talked about doing things together again. I hope this can materialize".
At 19, Sofia Essaïdi came out of the "Star AC" show with a notoriety that she had to contain with the help of her loved ones. "I took the ’Star Academy’ as a huge game. After this show, I had everything to write, everything to prove. Some saw it as an end, I saw it as the beginning of a possible career. I will never deny this show, it helped me a lot and taught me a lot".
But what about her music career? Will music lovers still listen to the sultry voice of the singer? She confides to have taken a step back because of certain wounds. "I needed to regain a freedom that I no longer had. An artistic freedom, but also a timing freedom. I can’t wait to get back on stage and relive those crazy emotions when you’re inhabited by your own songs," the same source indicates.
