Siemens Gamesa Wind Turbine Plant in Tangier Creates 750 Jobs, Boosts Exports

In total, the Siemens Gamesa wind turbine blade production plant has created 750 jobs and provided 350,000 hours of training, according to company data.
"The bulk of production is exported," said Aziz Rebbah, Minister of Energy and Mines during a visit to the plant. "The fiber you see here is imported from abroad, but it is possible to produce it locally. We are currently working in partnership with the Ministry of Industry so that we can supply the maximum of inputs to this plant and to all future investors in the renewable energy sector as part of a dedicated ecosystem," he told La Vie éco.
Siemens Gamesa contributes to the vitality of the local economy through its activities, but its integration rate remains unknown. When questioned on the subject, Aziz Rebbah evaded, preferring to highlight the impact in terms of jobs and foreign exchange earnings. It is also worth noting that the blade is just one component among many others of a wind turbine (tower, nacelle, rotor, etc.).
All of which leads to the conclusion that the wind industry is facing difficulties despite the government’s efforts. These efforts should promote the rise of renewable energies in the Kingdom’s electricity mix, which would benefit the local industry.
