Siemens Gamesa Seeks Buyer for Tangier Wind Turbine Blade Factory Amid Market Pressures

After announcing its closure, the German-Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa is considering selling its onshore blade plant located in the Tanger Automotive City free trade zone. Production will stop in early 2023.
According to explanations from Paulo Fernando Soares, CEO Onshore for Southern Europe, Africa, Latin America and Brazil, the decision was made from a global perspective that took into account the evolution of market demands, increased competition and the impact of a severe supply chain crisis, reports the Reuters news agency.
Siemens Gamesa had announced in September that it had decided to close its onshore blade plant in Tangier, as part of the company’s strategic Mistral program, designed to rationalize and simplify the organization, while improving its efficiency and effectiveness. The decision was driven by adjustment measures it has taken in recent years in Denmark, India, Spain and the United States, and a lack of orders for the type of blade produced at the plant.
