Siemens Gamesa Cuts 10% of Workforce at Tangier Wind Turbine Plant Amid Efficiency Drive

Installed for three years in Tangier, the wind energy giant Siemens Gamesa announces the layoff of 10% of its staff. For the company’s management, this is a revitalization process to make the company more productive and efficient.
"A few months ago, Siemens Gamesa launched an excellence management program for its factories, not only for wind turbine blades, but also for other products, starting from its Ágreda (Soria) plant," explain internal sources of the company. A program that is now being extended to other plants such as the one in Tangier. The objective for the managers is to make the companies more efficient and more productive, notes elespanol.com.
"However, the reason why these workers have been suspended is related to changes in the production of the plant," continue the company sources. "It currently has two production lines of the 132 model, which is the best-selling machine in Africa, and two other lines of the B63-10, an old Siemens model whose demand is rare. An additional line of the 132 model will be incorporated to replace the previous one." According to the managers, this temporary transition will not require as much staff.
The wind turbine manufacturer had to lay off around sixty employees from the Tangier plant, or about 10% of the workforce.
