"Today, we have 180 [megawatts] (MW) under construction in Midelt, as part of the 850 MW framework agreement signed with the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE). In this context, we are very eager to take the next steps, which will allow us to reach more than 1 GW in the country," said Sonia Adnane, Director of Communications and Institutional Affairs Africa at Siemens Gamesa, in an interview with Morocco World News.
Present in Morocco since 2017, the Spanish company holds more than 72% of the wind energy market share. According to the director, the kingdom’s ambitious plan is one of the reasons that prompted Siemens Gamesa to invest in the country. Moreover, she believes the country has all the necessary conditions to achieve its renewable energy goals. The Moroccan government’s ambition is to make 42% of its energy mix renewable by the end of 2020 and increase this share to 52% by 2030.
"We are proud to be a partner of choice and can seek major achievements and projects in collaboration with our partners in the Moroccan wind energy market," said Adnane, adding that Siemens Gamesa’s wish is to further develop its activities in Morocco, as the country offers better conditions.
