Shortage of kerosene in Moroccan airports on the verge of running dry
A fuel shortage is affecting Moroccan airports due to port disruptions caused by the weather. An alert bulletin is asking airlines to carry enough kerosene for the return trip, in order to avoid any refueling on site.
Faced with supply difficulties, the authorities have issued an alert bulletin (NOTAM) to international carriers. This urgent message indicates a critical availability of stocks and instructs pilots to take "sufficient precautions" from their airport of origin.
The operational directives are strict to limit consumption on Moroccan soil. Large aircraft are required to carry the maximum possible reserves. For medium-haul flights, the notice recommends boarding "double the amount of fuel needed" to ensure the round trip in autonomy.
This logistical tension originates upstream of the runways. According to a source close to the National Airports Office (ONDA) cited by Rue20, the situation stems from the closure of the main ports for "more than 3 weeks" due to bad weather conditions, preventing the docking of tankers and the unloading of cargoes.
The exceptional system, however, provides for exemptions for critical flights. Military aircraft, air ambulances and private aircraft of Royal Air Maroc are not affected by these restrictions and retain their access to refueling.
