Shooting in Marrakech (La Crème): Death penalty for the two Dutch killers
The criminal chamber of the Court of Appeal of Casablanca delivered its verdict on Monday, January 12, in the case of the shooting at the « La Crème» café in Marrakech. The justice system has chosen to confirm the death penalty for the main perpetrators of this crime that had marked the minds in 2017.
The two main defendants, of Dutch nationality, have seen their death sentence confirmed, in accordance with the first judgment rendered in 2019. They were prosecuted for extremely serious charges, including premeditated murder, attempted assassination, criminal conspiracy and possession of firearms without authorization.
While the court has been completely firm with the main perpetrators, it has nevertheless decided to reduce the sentences of several other people involved in the case:
• The owner of the «La Crème» café sees his prison sentence reduced from 15 years to 10 years.
• Jamal T. obtained a one-year reduction, going from 10 to 9 years in prison.
• Abdelnasser T., his brother, is now sentenced to 8 years instead of 10.
• Mohamed F. saw his conviction reduced to 5 years of actual imprisonment, instead of the initial 8 years.
This verdict marks the culmination of a long judicial process that began after the tragedy of November 2017. In addition to the murder, the case included numerous charges related to major crime, such as the arson of a vehicle, the concealment of evidence and drug trafficking. At the time, this case had relaunched the national debate on the means to fight against organized criminal networks in Morocco.
