Seven Moroccan Regions Report Zero New COVID-19 Cases as Lockdown Continues

The Ministry of Health announced on Saturday that seven regions did not record any new cases of covid-19 infection in the last 24 hours. Good news for Morocco, which extended the lockdown until June 10 on May 18.

These are the regions of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Draâ-Tafilalet, Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, Laayoune-Sakia Hamra, Guelmim-Oued Noun, Souss-Massa and Beni Mellal-Khénifra, according to the details provided by the Director of Epidemiology and Disease Control at the Ministry of Health, Mohamed El Youbi.

However, 74 new cases of covid-19 infection were recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of contamination cases to 7,406, the epidemiologist pointed out, specifying that "the majority of these new cases were recorded in the city of Casablanca (55), including 47 within two previously recorded epidemiological clusters. The rest of the cases were detected through the medical follow-up of contact persons," he noted.

In his daily press briefing, Mohamed El Youbi also mentioned that "261 new recovery cases were recorded, bringing the total number of recoveries to 4,638." He stressed that "the recovery rate is constantly increasing, currently at 62.6%," reports the MAP.

Regarding the number of deaths, it "stands at 198, after the announcement of a new death in the last 24 hours," the official noted, while specifying that the fatality rate remains stable at 2.7%. As for the total number of excluded cases, it reached 126,155 since the beginning of the pandemic, after the negative analysis of 10,085 cases in the last 24 hours, he said.

Speaking of active cases, the official noted that "2,570 patients are currently under treatment or medical supervision." And as at the beginning of the pandemic, "the Casablanca-Settat region has the largest number of active cases, followed by Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima, Fès-Meknès and Marrakech-Safi, while the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region currently has no active cases."

He finally "called on citizens to respect the rules of hygiene and health safety, as well as the preventive measures taken by the Moroccan authorities, by showing responsibility and patriotism," the same source specifies.
