Senior Adviser to Morocco’s King Mohammed VI Dies at 67

Mohamed Moâtassim, adviser to King Mohammed VI, died on Monday, June 5, after a long illness. He was 67 years old.
Born in 1956, he did his primary and secondary schooling in Settat before obtaining a degree in political science from the Faculty of Law in Rabat in 1977. He then continued his studies and obtained two C.E.S (Specialized Study Certificates) in political science and international relations from the same faculty, as well as a postgraduate diploma (D.E.S.) from the Faculty of Law in Casablanca in 1983.
In 1988, he defended a State thesis in political science on "The traditionalist evolution of Moroccan constitutional law".
His political career began in the governments formed in November 1993 and June 1994, where he held the position of minister delegate to the Prime Minister in charge of relations with parliament. Subsequently, on February 25, 1995, he was appointed royal cabinet officer, and four years later, he was appointed advisor to the King.
