Security Guard’s Racist Outburst at Spanish Train Station Sparks Outrage

Wednesday 4 March 2020, by Sylvanus

Young Moroccans were victims of racist insults from a security guard at the Girona train station in Spain.

On Twitter, the anti-racist association of Girona Espai Antiracista, which published the video of the scene, condemned the act. In this video, we see the security guard approaching the young Moroccans sitting among other young people at the station. He asked them to show him their tickets. The young men objected, arguing that he was not the ticket inspector.

Visibly angry, the man does not back down. One of the Moroccans asks him to treat them with respect. "Go to your country if you want respect," retorts the security guard. He will call the two young men "stupid", before chaining the racist insults.

For Espai Antirasista, this act is one of the examples of the harassment and bullying that many young people are victims of at the Girona train station. This association, which defends equality between all people, without discrimination of sex, origin and culture, has called on the Spanish government to react to these kinds of situations.

The misadventure of these two Moroccans is not an isolated case. In December 2019, Espai Antiracista had published a video in which a waitress at a bar in the Girona TGV station had refused to serve coffee to three young Moroccans. Justifying her act, this waitress from the Pans & Company chain had declared that she had only followed the orders of her boss.
