Survey: 64% of Young Moroccan Immigrants in Europe Face Discrimination

The Moroccan Community Council Abroad (CCME) has sounded the alarm on the situation of young Moroccans in Europe. 64% of them say they are victims of discrimination in all its forms, according to a survey conducted in partnership with IPSOS.
The study, which covered a sample of 1,433 Moroccan youths aged 18 to 35 from the 6 main European immigration countries, shed light on the pitfalls encountered by young Moroccans.
Two issues stand out from the survey, particularly employment and housing. 64% and 57% of the young people surveyed feel they are being discriminated against when it comes to finding a job or housing.
Despite the freedom of worship advocated in the 6 European countries in question, the CCME considers that about half of the young people surveyed have difficulties freely practicing their religion.
For Abdellah Boussouf, Secretary General of the CCME, the study could provide an answer to the Moroccan public authorities in their management of the affairs of Moroccans abroad. It "highlights figures and realities useful for guiding Moroccan public policies towards Moroccans abroad".
While recalling the socio-economic "realities" specific to each Moroccan community in Europe, the Secretary General calls on the Moroccan government to "draw the attention of European countries to the various forms of discrimination against young people of Moroccan origin during exchanges and negotiations with these countries".
Boussouf also called on the host countries to ensure "the application of rights in terms of the protection of minorities and respect the principle of equal opportunities".
