Security Guard’s Quick Action Saves Choking Man at Spanish Health Center

Moroccan Mohamed Amezian El Harrak, security guard in charge of reception at the San Pedro de Alcántara Health Center (southern Spain), was forced to perform the Heimlich maneuver on a man who arrived in a state of choking at the center.
Mohamed, 33, performed the maneuver without waiting for the arrival of the medical staff. He first started slapping the 45-year-old patient on the back, then decided to do the Heimlich maneuver. "He started coughing and breathing with difficulty," he recounts to SUR.

A nurse then took care of the patient and took him to the emergency room where he received first aid, before being taken to the Costa del Sol hospital. The patient is out of danger and has already left the hospital a few days ago, hospital sources confirmed to the same source.
Mohamed, originally from Tangier, returned to his post after saving the man’s life. "Everything went well. I acted naturally thanks to the first aid training I received," he confides. And to add: "Whether you like it or not, when you find yourself in such a situation, experience helps you react quickly."
