There are no secret negotiations" between Morocco and Algeria
Massad Boulos, advisor for Africa and the Middle East to President Donald Trump, assured that "there are no secret negotiations" between Morocco and Algeria, contradicting the statements of Steve Wittkof, another advisor to the US president, who recently announced a "peace agreement" between the two countries within 60 days.
"There are no secret negotiations, but ongoing contacts with the two countries. I recently made a public visit to Algeria during which we discussed these issues," said Massad Boulos, advisor to the US president for Africa and the Middle East, to the Arab media Al Hadath. During a tour of the Maghreb, the advisor to the US president was in Algeria on July 27, where he was received in audience by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, recalls TSA Algeria.
Boulos added that Washington has been working with Rabat and Algiers "for weeks and there has been intense work, especially in recent days. We believe we have been able to reach absolutely appreciable common ground." In his latest speech, King Mohammed VI "extended his hand to President Tebboune, whom he invited to dialogue," for "the second time at least in recent months," the US advisor stressed, hoping "to also count on the wisdom of President Tebboune and on Algeria and the Algerians in order to seize this historic opportunity to resolve this dispute and these tensions."
For its part, Washington supports "these discussions" and "everything that is happening, within the framework of this Security Council resolution." Massad Boulos’ statements come a day after the UN Security Council adopted a resolution on Western Sahara validating the Moroccan autonomy plan for the Sahara as the sole basis for the settlement of this conflict.
