US Pushes for Morocco-Algeria Peace Deal Within 60 Days

A peace agreement between Morocco and Algeria? This is what emerges from an intervention by Steve Witkoff, the envoy of US President Donald Trump to the Middle East, in the presence of Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law, on the 60 Minutes program, broadcast last Sunday on the American network CBS. "We are currently working on it, and a peace agreement will be concluded within the next two months," said Steve Witkoff. According to him, the agreement could be concluded "within 60 days".

This statement comes shortly after King Mohammed VI and Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune received messages from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Everything suggests that mediation efforts are underway to resolve the differences between the two countries.

This is not the first time that the United States has expressed its intention to bring Morocco and Algeria closer together. Messaad Boulos, advisor to US President Donald Trump for Africa, had, in an interview with the director of the Al Arabiya channel’s office in Washington, mentioned the Sahara issue and had affirmed the concern of the United States to resolve it.
