Search for Missing Moroccan Soccer Player Abdellatif Akhrif Ends in Tragedy

The family of Abdellatif Akhrif, a player for Ittihad de Tanger, who went missing in early July after a sea outing with four of his teammates off the Restinga beach near M’diq, has lost all hope of finding him, after two weeks of fruitless search.
The family of the missing player has finally accepted his death. This Tuesday, a prayer was held at the Bani Youssef mosque in the Bir Chifa neighborhood. Personalities and officials at various levels are expected at this ceremony.
In a statement to the press, Abdellatif Akhrif’s mother expressed her sadness and pain at not having found her son’s body. She asked the rescue and search teams to intensify their efforts to find the player’s body so that he can be buried with dignity.
Abdellatif Akhrif, Salman Harraq, Abdelhamid Maali and two other Ittihad de Tanger players were in early July on an outing aboard a pleasure boat off the Restinga beach near M’diq, when they were swept away by the strong current of the sea.
While the rescue teams of the prefecture of M’diq-Fnideq managed to save Abdelhamid Maali and the two other companions, Abdellatif Akhrif and Salman Harraq, they are still missing to this day. Their families hope every day that the sea will return their bodies.
