Schengen Visa Fees to Jump 33% as EU Adopts New Regulations

Visa fees in the Schengen area will increase by 33.3%, according to the new Visa Code adopted by the Council of the European Union in June 2019.
An information note, addressed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Nador consulate, presented the new tariff schedule. Thus, applicants over the age of 12 will have to pay 80 euros (instead of 60 euros currently). On the other hand, those between 6 and 11 years old are required to pay 40 euros. Visa fees are free for children under 6 years old.
The other novelty for this new Visa Code is the possibility of submitting the application six months before the trip (instead of three months). As for the processing time of applications, it varies between 15 and 45 days.
In addition, the new code introduces a new approach allowing regular travelers, who have had their visa applications accepted in the past, to benefit from multiple-entry visas with a validity period ranging from one to five years.
