Schalke 04 Vows Legal Action Against Fans for Racist Chants at German Cup Match

Schalke’s sporting director, Jochen Schneider, wants to take action against the authors of the racist chants directed at Hertha Berlin defender Jordan Torunarigha during the match counting for the German Cup round of 16.
At the end of this match, won after extra time, and which allowed them to qualify for the quarter-finals, the sporting director of Schalke04, very upset, expressed his indignation at this behavior: "Zero tolerance. I have no understanding for the likes of these idiots," he said. He also promised to use all his weight to prosecute those responsible and "make them face the consequences" of their actions.
However, the official of the Gelsenkirchen club apologized to the victim Torunarigha, a German under-22 international born in Germany whose father, a former professional player, is Nigerian. The central defender of the team was sent off during the first period of extra time for having, out of frustration, thrown a crate of drinks, after a tackle by Oscar Mascarell.
According to his teammates and his coach, Jürgen Klinsmann, the player had been targeted by racist chants before being sent off to the locker room. The coach supported that he had been insulted and recalled having asked the referees to protect him.
As for Hertha Niklas Stark, the club’s defender, he has called on the German Football Federation (DFB) to act. For now, the DFB has not communicated on the Tuesday incidents.
